Department of Community Services Bargaining 2023

Workers in Nova Scotia’s Department of Community Services provide vital services for children, youth and families, people living with disabilities and people who require income supports. We help provide affordable housing and other social services that strengthen our communities.

Community Services counsellors and support staff have been without a contract since 2021. In this time services have been underfunded and inflation has made it difficult for many workers to make ends meet. There are 2,000 DCS workers across Nova Scotia that are represented by 21 CUPE locals. These workers are negotiating a new contract. These contracts will have a large impact on the level of service that DCS workers are able to provide.

It is up to the Nova Scotia government to make a commitment to workers and the people who rely on our services provide adequate funding for quality services and good jobs in the Department of Community Services.
